The girls have nearly tripled since we first brought them home so we decided to make one more extension to the pig pen. The addition was made easier with the post hole digger implement for our tractor and the fence panels from tractor supply. We added an outdoor shelter for their food barrel to give them more room inside the little house.
Lisa, Kathryn and Joanie saying "Good Morning...Now feed us"!
Our corn is now above the kids heads and starting to sprout tassel's, by mid July we should be chomping on some delicious golden queen. By far this is shaping up to be the best crop ever for us. We also set up the Japanese beetle traps earlier this year as opposed to the past couple of years in the hopes to contain the pests better.
And in other news: Kids are out of school we could not ask for better kids both had straight A's all year and NW ( the oldest) finished up with the highest GPA overall for the entire 6th grade. Can you say "WOW" ! tears swelled up in our eyes when we heard his name called at the awards ceremony.
We are so darn proud of both of them and all the hard work they put in over the past school year. God truly blessed us with two wonderful children both academically and in sports.
Bravo Zulu to the kids, and those piggies are looking good.
ReplyDeleteThank you Paul!!! yea the piggies do look good, will look even better on the smoker lol
DeleteYou should indeed be proud of the kids. They've done extremely well.
ReplyDeleteHope all this rain doesn't rot the corn. It's getting pretty soggy here.

DeleteWe hope all the rain does not rot our corn either, so far it has been just beneficial. But thing have been soggy here, so bad in fact I could hardly get into the pig pen today.

ReplyDeleteSenior and Glock Mom,
ReplyDeleteI can't get over how much your pigs have grown. Will they be going to freezer camp soon? That sure is some really nice looking corn. Tell me about the beetle traps, have they helped a lot. Are you dbehydrating, freesing, and canning this gorgeous corn.
Sending hugs, and love to y'all.
Sandy

yes soon and very soon the girls will be off to freezer camp. And yes they have exploded in size. we estimate they around 100 #s maybe a little more.
DeleteSo far when the corn is ready we will freeze half and can the other half.
Beetle traps work pretty well, but we still spray. For some reason they have been going after the green beans more then the corn.
RE: those beetle traps. They work by using an attractant. From reports by bug experts they attract just fine but not how you wanted them to. What they really do is bring in more beetles than they kill. Spraying the remainder doesn't work either as they eat till they die then another batch comes in the next day and repeat.
